Chalandri offers many gastronomical choices from all over the world. Being a well organized shopping center, nice resting spots are offered for refreshments and “supplies”, necessary equipment to the tired shopper who after recharging continues his consumption frenzy.
Sotto Voce covers all of the above being an ideal Italian restaurant with reasonable prices. We however, visited the restaurant on a weeknight avoiding the regular shopping mania of daytime. Listening to excellent music, we enjoyed our dinner sitting on the balcony. The interior design created a homey atmosphere using warm colors, making the restaurant a perfect choice for winter as well.
As for the restaurant’s kitchen, it can fully satisfy the appetite of the Italian admirers. The swordfish carpaccio with caper (€12.80) and the tomato, garlic, basil and prosciutto bruschettes (€8.80) were excellent choices for appetizers. As for the grilled mushrooms with balsamico sauce (€10.80) they were good but not special. The Sotto Voce salad (€12.80) however, with pancetta, cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese, was delicious and could stand as a main dish by itself.
The main courses (or at least what we consider to be main courses in Greece), Sotto Voce offers many choices of risottos, pasta, and meats with the necessary Italian twist. The shrimp, broccoli, and saffron risotto, (€14) was tasty, the rice perfectly boiled and the saffron in the correct amount for some spice and color. The salmon tagliattelles with vodka and heavy cream sauce were nicely combined. But the great surprise was the South Italy penne (€13.80) with spicy sausage. It could easily be categorized as a masculine dish, since apart from the calories, it combined the meaty effect so much admired by men’s palates. Finally, the pesto griskin, with cherry tomatoes and baked potato (€17.50), was a fresh delight created by the mixing of basil and pork.
Sotto Voce, in general, offers all that is required in an Italian restaurant and with reasonable prices. The complete wine list and the selection of desserts make the picture complete.
